Scottish House & Disco Festival: Jocelyn Brown

SWG3, Glasgow - 16/05/22

Jocelyn Brown’s back in town! Headlining the Scottish House & Disco Festival at Glasgow’s SWG3, this virtuoso songstress effortlessly brought the house down!

Born Jocelyn Laurette Brown on 25 November 1950, in the township of Kinston, North Carolina, Ms Brown like her Kinston forefathers and foremothers grew up to place a further notch on Kinston’s map of talent and fame. Coming from Gospel roots, Ms Brown was surrounded by musical influences; both her mother and aunt, Barbara Roy Gaskins, were singers. The latter went on to have several dance music hits throughout the 1970’s. Not to mention her multi- talented cousin, the late Mr Ray Gaskins, a world distinguished jazz saxophonist, songwriter, singer, keyboard player and producer.

True to her roots, Ms Brown has achieved the status of a musical icon. Her illustrious career as a crafted pianist, songwriter and vocalist has seen her gain a vast array of fans spanning all ages and ethnicities. From the screens of Hollywood to the dance floors of the global stage, her versatility and adaptation of several genres (including, Funk, Gospel, Jazz, Pop, R & B, Rock, Soul and House) has led her to collaborate with some of the finest musicians and producers on the planet. Be it John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, George Benson, Luther Vandross, Kym Mazelle, Martha Wash, Todd Terry or John Morales, Ms Brown has worked with them all!

With her son Wazik on the decks, Ms Brown performed a five song set of her chart- topping hits, while the rapturous, heterogeneous, Scottish crowd harmoniously sang every note of every song as they danced to the floor stomping beats. Kicking off with her ‘Old Skool’, No. 1 Hot Dance Club hit, ‘Something Goin’ On’ (In Your Soul), a song written and produced by the renowned DJ, Todd Terry, Ms Brown seamlessly glided through a smooth transition of her and David Morales’ collaborative hit ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ and smash-hit, ‘Always There’. Ms Brown geed her palm-held audience for her platinum R&B Dance Anthem, ‘Somebody Else’s Guy’, leaving the pumped-up festival-goers with another Todd Terry No. 1 Hot Dance Club tune entitled, ‘Keep on Jumpin’.

Ms Brown is a star of herculean quality who was born to entertain and, as usual, left her gleeful audience on a euphoric high.
