‘Notturno’

Our latest dance film ‘Notturno’ is now ready for you to watch.

The shape of this story came to Kalliopi on first hearing Schubert’s ‘Notturno’ by chance on the radio.

Costume played a large part in developing the idea. The black shawl goes naturally with the dark mood of the opening. The Man’s red cape is made from the material we used back in 2012 to dress the table in our first exhibition of photos and sculpture at the Herakleidon Museum in Athens. The cape itself seemed to dictate the whirling dance. The white shawl had enchanted us many years ago in a London charity shop; now it finds its use suggesting a chrysalis. The Woman’s coloured costume caught our eye in a shop in Andros. After we’d bought it, walking home, we realised:

“This must be in our film too: it’s the butterfly dress.”

In their final walk through the trees in Edinburgh, you may see the butterfly playing its natural supporting part.

Warm greetings
