News: Barrie Hunter at Pitlochry Festival Theatre
From the 24-27 June the acclaimed Scottish actor Barrie Hunter will take to the newly opened amphitheatre stage at Pitlochry Festival Theatre to read extracts from the works of the Agatha Christie, the prolific and beloved author behind the novels and short stories featuring the immortal character of Hercule Poirot.
Travel from Egypt to Italy, a country house to a cheap flat, as we hear from Poirot’s very dear friend and partner in crime, Captain Hastings as he gives his wonderfully engaging insight into the crime-solving prowess of the celebrated Belgian detective.
Director and Associate Director at Pitlochry Festival Theatre Amy Liptrott said:
“I'm really delighted to be bringing An Afternoon / Evening with Agatha Christie to our Pitlochry Festival Theatre audiences as part of our Summer Season 2021. I have been a fan of Agatha Christie's sleuths for years and Hercule Poirot was excellent company during the first lockdown. His unrelenting quest for justice and truth is what brings me back to the novels again and again. He is also such a character. Precision characterisation needs no embellishment and these readings from Agatha Christie's novels by the brilliant Barrie Hunter will be a great way to enjoy some of Poirot's most exciting cases. Barrie is the perfect teller of these tales, and I am thrilled to be working with him.”
Dundee based actor Barrie Hunter has worked consistently with companies including The Royal Lyceum, The Tron Theatre, Perth Theatre, Mull Theatre, National Theatre of Scotland, Borderline, Oran Mor A Play, A Pie, and a Pint and Citizens Theatre. He has been a regular member of Dundee Rep’s Ensemble, having appeared in many productions over the years including Smile, Tay Bridge, All My Sons, Death of A Salesman, August: Osage County and Sunshine on Leith. He is also a well-loved Panto Dame, having played the role at Perth Theatre for the past decade. His film and television credits include The Angels Share (Sixteen Films), Rab C. Nesbitt (Comedy Unit/BBC) and Still Game (BBC Scotland).
