(Preview) Another Afternoon at the Opera

St Andrew’s and St George’s Church, George Street, Edinburgh - 12/08/23 at 4.15pm

Brian Bannatyne-Scott, Bass with Caroline Taylor, Catherine Backhouse, Laurie Slavin, and Kristine Donnan, piano

As part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and following on from the hugely successful ‘Afternoon at the Opera’ in last year’s Festival, Brian Bannatyne-Scott and friends invite you to an hour of the greatest operatic music, in the wonderful setting of this superb Georgian church in the heart of Edinburgh.

A selection of arias, duets and ensembles from great composers such as Mozart, Verdi, Monteverdi, Richard Strauss, Bizet and Mussorgsky will enchant the ear and arouse the emotions, as these fine singers take you from Rome to Seville, from Moscow to Colombo, and from Naples to Vienna. Three of Britain’s best young singers, all on the cusp of brilliant careers, combine with Scotland’s own Brian Bannatyne-Scott, a bass who has sung at all the world’s great venues, like Covent Garden, La Scala, Milan, the Paris Opera, Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires, and at many of the biggest festivals, like Salzburg, Edinburgh, Aix-en-Provence and the BBC Proms.

They are accompanied at the piano by the splendid Kristine Donnan, who will conjure the sounds of a whole orchestra out of her instrument.

Don’t miss this enchanting concert. Tickets are available at the door and from The Fringe Society website, priced £12 (£10).

Note that the concert begins at 4.15 pm, 15 minutes earlier than printed in the Fringe programme. This is to allow the audience to go on to the Usher Hall in time for the Magic Flute, which begins at 6pm.
